This blog is for those interested in alternative medicine. I’m Melissa, a Licensed Massage Therapist located in Leesburg, FL. I have been a practicing massage therapist for 9 years, and I have an associate’s degree in science and massage therapy and a bachelor’s in alternative health.
Your Wayward Healer
My specialty is deep tissue, also known as neuromuscular therapy. The goal is to use various techniques to return function by relieving adhesions, strengthening elongated muscles, stretching short, taut muscles, and improving the range of motion. Also in my arsenal are Swedish, Lymph, Prenatal, Sports, and Medical Massage. Another service I offer is to encourage and coach better ways to stretch, move, alleviate pain, and improve posture, all to bring about better, more effortless movement in the body. I address these things individually during sessions as clients bring up what has been physically ailing them.
This brings us to the reason for this blog. This blog, in its entirety, is for you, either a future client or someone just interested in finding ways to eliminate pain. My future posts will focus on what causes pain in the body, alternative methods to approach health and wellness, and how to use self-care techniques to eliminate dysfunction and pain within the body.
So why name this the Wayward Healer Blog?
When coming up with what I wanted this blog to be, I thought about the people who have lost faith in modern/western medicine. Even the practitioners who fight hard to solve their patients’ problems become disenfranchised, dismayed, and frustrated with the medicine they once applied. I see these people traveling the “road less traveled,” seeking other, older knowledge tempered with science to heal the damage that such practices had done.
Wayward– rebellious, obstinate, disobedient, or defiant. As I saw it, it goes against what is typically expected in the healthcare industry.
Healer– one who heals
This blog is meant to approach health and wellness from this perspective with a deep respect for science while acknowledging legitimate natural, holistic, nontraditional healthcare practices. I hope to provide a place to access this information, which will quickly help clients and provide them with resources to continue to improve in the areas where they have sought help.
The Wayward Path
Many different therapies out there can bring about all of this, but one thing I have noticed is that regardless of what method/s you use, consistency is key. You can’t fix everything on the first try, as very few things in this life work immediately. I urge that whatever you try to do for your health, be it emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical. Please take the time to truly try out the method thoroughly. Giving a new approach or method takes time to adjust for variables and make adjustments to make things work for you. As we are all unique in what specifically works, we have enough in common that sometimes, just a little tweaking is enough.
Thank you all for reading, as this is a re-release of the blog and website. Please share, comment, subscribe, and let me know what you want to see in the future!
I look forward to our wayward path together!!
